MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Homecoming is a week away, and police officials at Northern Michigan University are preparing for it.

Police are reminding students, faculty and visitors to use caution and make good choices while having fun.

Sergeant Tom Parks says he wants his force to be seen and felt by the community.

"Last game, I had fans come up and just say thank you for your service glad to see that you're here," he said. "We make a point to make our presence known, you know... be visible staying on the fields, sidelines. I think people enjoy seeing us out there. It provides a sense of security."

In celebration of homecoming, Northern Michigan University has a weekend-full of activities planned. Kickoff for the game will take place Saturday, Sept. 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Superior Dome.
