Norlite Nursing Center confirms 9 COVID-19 cases

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A total of five residents and four employees at Norlite Nursing Center have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Norlite Administrator Wayne Johnson.

Johnson says the male resident who died at Norlite Friday night was one of the five residents with the virus.

It is not clear if these cases are included in the official Marquette County caseload report at this time. Fifteen cases and two deaths have been reported in Marquette County as of April 6.

On March 31, Johnson said the facility's enhanced screening protocols detected its first case in an employee.


ORIGINAL STORY on Saturday, April 4:

A resident at Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette who tested positive for COVID-19 died late Friday night, according to Norlite Adminstrator Wayne Johnson.

The adult male was in his 70s and had other co-morbidities.

A total of three residents tested positive following exposure with an asymptomatic employee, including the man who died.

The other two residents are in good spirits and their conditions are stable. Johnson also said all staff are wearing proper PPE and have been following CDC guidelines.

Other tests for residents have come back negative, with one test currently pending.

We are broken-hearted. On Friday night, we lost one of our residents to COVID-19.
