MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Following up on the vandalism of the Phil Niemisto statue in downtown Marquette, police are investigating the night in question.

According to Downtown Development Authority officials, police were given multiple camera angles from area businesses with a view of the pocket park Friday night and Saturday morning.

Vandals broke off the statues concrete hat and stole the handmade scarf wrapped around the statue's neck.

The DDA said local businesses are also in the process of putting together a reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.

"Someone is going to have seen something, so if it's not on the footage, someone is going to have seen what happened and we're going to get this take care of," Marquette DDA Executive Director Mona Lang said. "Very disappointed for the community, this kind of went right, I think to the heart of the community, and I am really disappointed that someone would actually do this."

According to some reports, the plaque next to the statue was stolen as well, however, authorities said it was removed by officials in order to be fixed.
