CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. (WLUC) - In Crystal Falls Township, a new bike path on the Heritage Trail is now open.
Members of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, TransCanda, and Crystal Falls Township gathered at Donna Hugh Park where the 9,800-foot long trail begins.
This extension project took about one month to complete.
Construction cost approximately $600,000. The township contributed about half of that money, with the other half coming from the Michigan DNR Trust Fund Program. The TransCanda Charitable Foundation also donated almost $3,300 for a rest area and bench near the trail.
The Crystal Falls Township Supervisor Thomas Lesandrini said this is a great way for people to enjoy the outdoors.
"We think it's a good healthy choice for people to be here in our community and enjoy the trail. So, we're really proud and happy to have partnered with the DNR and the park system to put this project together."
The next step of this process is to expand the trail to Bewabic and then to Pentoga.
