NMU's Hospitality Program hosts "Under the Big Top"

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - On Friday evening, Northern Michigan University's Hospitality and Tourism Management Program transformed the Jacobetti Complex into a circus for the night.

“Under the Big Top” is the 15th annual Main Event put on by the program’s Banquets and Catering course.

It fund raises for a study abroad scholarship that is given out to a student every year.

The theme for this year was circus, which included live entertainment, a six course meal and even a silent auction.

Jessica Harless is the Executive Banquet Manager and says the students have been hard at work preparing for the event since the first week of school.

"So tonight we do have 108 guests, which is the largest group we've had in quite a while so it's a very popular event this year, we are very much looking forward to that and very lucky for that opportunity to have such a big crowd this year,” said Harless. “It’s very important to us that we can fill every seat and get as much money as we possibly can for this scholarship.”

Harless added that putting on this large of an event is great experience for her future career.
