MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLCU) - Northern Michigan University is preparing for their annual Snowfest Wednesday January 15. Snowfest started two years ago as a way to welcome back the students and show off different groups and organizations they can join.
Students will have a chance to try out winter equipment such as fat-tire bikes, snowshoes, skis and learn about other outdoors opportunities. NMU Staff say it's partly about encouraging students to enjoy the outdoor activities.
"Basically this event is to kick off the winter semester, highlight the rentals that we have available to students on campus, it's getting students outdoors, embracing the outdoors," said Chris Smith, Outdoor Recreation Manager for NMU. "A majority of the time here in Marquette is winter so we want as many opportunities for students to take part in activities."
Snowfest runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday inside Jamrich Hall and out in the Academic Mall. This will be the third year for the event.
