NMU holds annual First Nations Food Taster

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Native American Student Association of Northern Michigan University held its First Nations Food Taster event at the Jacobetti Complex Friday night.

With dishes featuring bison, wild rice, squash, and venison, it was an opportunity for the community to try some of the food the first settlers of the great lakes traditionally enjoyed. Organizers say this is an opportunity to experience both modern and traditional Native American food and culture.

"We love to have the NMU campus and the community a different array of traditional and contemporary recipes from this region. I hope the community takes away a part of the culture as we are celebrating it by having these foods and we also have indigenous music."

This was this 18th year for the Food Taster. The event is also a fundraiser for the Native American Student Association.
