ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Delta County Airport conducted a full-scale training exercise with numerous agencies from the local area Monday.
The purpose of this exercise was to train each agency's specific function in the event of an aircraft mishap at the Delta County Airport.
The training event included a plane simulator that produced a scenario very similar to actual fire produced in many aircraft mishaps. It also included table top exercises.
“It is imperative that all of our local agencies get together to rehearse for an aircraft mishap," said Airport Manager Jeffery Sierpen. "It is training that has proven to save lives. Our local agencies understand that, and it showed in today’s training regimen. The participation from everyone here today was very impressive.”
Participants included Delta County airport staff, Delta County Sheriff's Office, Escanaba Department of Public Safety, OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group, Delta Airlines, Ford River Township Fire Department, Rampart EMS, Public Health-Delta Menominee Counties, American Red Cross, Delta County Emergency Management, Delta County Board Chairman Patrick Johnson, Delta County Board member David Rivard and ARFF Specialists out of Hermantown, Minnesota.
