UPDATE: Multiple agencies battle large fire in Calumet Saturday night

CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: The fire started at approximately 12:30 am according to the Calumet Village Police Department.

The fire started at an abandoned church on the 300 block of 7th street.

A nearby house also caught on fire. All occupants were evacuated from the residence. One female had smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.

American Red Cross was contacted.

The Calumet Village Police Department was assisted by the Houghton County Sheriffs Office, Laurium Village Police Department, Michigan State Police, Calumet Village Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, Laurium Village Fire Department, Ahmeek Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, Semco Gas Company, Upper Peninsula Power Company.

Multiple agencies, including Calumet Village Police Department and Laurium Fire Department, responded to a fire in Calumet Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

An old church and a residence caught fire on 7th Street. Witnesses say the blaze started outside the back of a church and subsequently touched off a building next to it.

A cause is unknown, and there are no further details at this time.
