MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Michigan Nature Association held the third annual “Moose on the Loose” 5k run/walk at Presque Isle Park in Marquette on Sunday.
The event included a timed 5k family-fun race and a one mile “fun run” for kids.
The race is just one of six held throughout the state by the Michigan Nature Association. Each race highlights rare species in Michigan, and all proceeds go to the association to help with conservation efforts.
"We do lots of things like work days at our nature sanctuaries, hikes, and events, but we find that these runs bring out other folks who may not be interested in some of the other events that we hold. This is a great way to reach those people as well,” said Michigan Nature Association Director of Outreach and Education, Julie Stoneman.
Stoneman added that this year’s race was the biggest Moose on the Loose run to date.
