Missing Gwinn hiker found safe

A Gwinn resident was found safe Saturday morning after getting lost while hiking along the Escanaba River.
On Friday, the Forsyth Township Police Department responded to a missing person call around 7:20 p.m. Forsyth officers learned that the resident had gone hiking and had been missing for several hours. A ground search was conducted in the area of Marquette County Road EEB and the Escanaba River where the hiker was believed to have been.
At 3:30 a.m. Saturday, a Michigan State Police Helicopter from Saginaw, Michigan had arrived to search with thermal and night vision capabilities. They located the missing hiker who was in overall good condition.
The Forsyth Township Police Department was assisted on the scene by Michigan State Police K-9 Teams from Negaunee and Iron Mountain, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit, Michigan State Police Aviation Unit, Forsyth Township Fire and EMS, Forsyth Township Emergency Management and the Marquette County Dispatch Center.
