Michigan Unemployment rate rose in July

LANSING, MI (WLUC) The Michigan unemployment rate rose in July for the fifth consecutive month in a row.

According to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the jobless rate in July was 4.3%.

The state's unemployment rate was three-tenths of a percentage point above the state's July 2018 rate of 4.0 percent.

Despite the recent dip, state officials are optimistic about overall job growth.

"Despite a minor jobless rate increase, Michigan's total workforce and employment levels have both advanced of the past year", said Jason Palmer, director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic initiatives, "Since July 2018, the state's labor force expanded by 65,000 residents and employment was up by 47,000."

So far this year, the state labor force has outpaced U.S workforce growth.
