Michigan Tech upgrades blue light emergency phone system
Michigan Technological University recently installed five new emergency phones across their campus.
This project has been in development for the past two years, and was funded by a grant from the State of Michigan.
Each emergency phone has a button directly dialing campus security. All are equipped with four cameras for surveillance.
The university put in these new emergency phones to fix issues with the previous ones.
"The old ones where mounted either on buildings or inside buildings. They were hard to find, there was a blue light on the building, but you had to go in the entrance door to find a phone on the wall. We removed those once we put the new ones up," said MTU Principal Systems Analyst, Scott Ackerman.
The emergency phone towers are also equipped with wireless access points to help increase Michigan Tech's Wi-Fi network.
