Michigan Connections Academy's online students tour Upper Peninsula
Students from the Michigan Connections Academy are touring the Upper Peninsula this week. Wednesday, they stopped in Munising to take a Pictured Rocks Boat tour on the Riptide Ride.
The Michigan Connections Academy is an online school for students K-12. The Academy allows students with or without barriers to a traditional education, to learn remotely from teachers in Lansing.
Since the learning is all done online, they like to meet up often throughout the year, if possible, for field trips so students are still socializing.
“Something that we're asked a lot is, 'How do you connect? You're online through a computer, how do you build those relationships?'” said Amy Dunlap, field trip coordinator with the Michigan Connections Academy. “I know my families and students better than I did in a traditional setting and this is just another way to make those connections and apply those real world experiences for our families.”
Students from the Academy will finish their tour of the Upper Peninsula Thursday with a trip to Nature's Kennel in Newberry.
