Marquette's Choice Event raises money for Planned Parenthood of Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Marquette’s Choice Event took place on Monday evening at Northern Michigan University.

This annual event is a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Michigan.

The evening is meant to gather anyone in the area who supports the nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health care all across the country.

Nearly 200 people attended the fundraiser held at NMU’s University Center, where guests enjoyed music and refreshments.

Lori Carpentier is the President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Michigan.

Carpentier spoke about the importance of having these resources available.

"I think it's important all over the country but particularly in Michigan, we are the largest provider of subsidized reproductive health care in the state,” said Carpentier. “We know that is the key to reducing the level of unintended pregnancy and that's the best way that we can predictably reduce the need for abortion and that's what we are all about.”

She also commented on Planned Parenthood being available to any young women or men in the area.

They take people whether or not they have insurance coverage.
