Marquette teachers union members join striking nurses union

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Nurses striking against UPHS in Marquette were joined by unions from around the state.

Along with Michigan Nurses Association members, who represent the nurses at the Duke Lifepoint hospital, members from local labor, steel worker and teachers unions were on hand to stand in solidarity with the nurses union.

"Teachers are coming out in support today because we believe an injury to one group is an injury to everyone in the labor movement," Marquette Area Educational Association President Fred Cole said. "There are also members of the labor movement and we're here to support them, they've supported us when we've had difficulties in contracts and whatnot."

According to Cole, teachers joined the nurses before and after classes, and Cole joined the picket line during his lunch break.
