Marquette stabbing suspect arraigned on murder charge

A 24-year-old Ishpeming man was arraigned in Marquette County District Court following a fatal stabbing in Marquette last Friday.

Derek James Blemke was arraigned on one count of homicide-open murder on Monday. At his arraignment, the judge denied him bond.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday around 1:45 a.m. at 2050 Wright Street Apartment 7. Officers arrived on the scene to find 21-year-old Marquette resident Brandon Allen LaFavre deceased.

Blemke has a probable cause conference scheduled for July 12 at 8:45 a.m. and a preliminary examination scheduled for July 19 1:30 p.m.
