Marquette man sentenced to jail after boat accident in Munising
A Marquette man has been sentenced in Alger County Circuit Court on charges of negligent homicide.
Timothy Preston pleaded guilty to charges of Marine Safety Negligent Crippling or Death, and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.
Preston was arrested after seven people that were on his wooden construction boat were knocked into Lake Superior.
Robert Louis of Lake Orion tried to swim back toward the boat but the propeller hit him and he was not able to be rescued. The six other passengers were rescued by a nearby pontoon boat.
Preston was sentenced to 11 months in jail, however he only needs to serve 45 days. After 45 days served on the weekends, he will be on probation for two years. If he violates that probation, he will have to serve the full 11 month jail sentence.
