MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - After the U.S. Women's Soccer team's dominant performance at the World Cup, many local female soccer players are using the team's win as an inspiration.

Several members the Marquette United Girls U-17 team said they followed the U.S. team through the tournament.

They say it's great to see people cheering the team, they're happy to see the women's team take center stage.

"I think it really inspires me and my teammates to follow our dreams, and follow in their footsteps someday," said Sydney McCarthy, 17.

"As I've grown up, I've watched this team over the years, and its just really cool to see this group of women continue to dominate in the field of women's soccer, and its just a bit inspiration for all of us," said Emilee Gooch, 17.

"It was kind of considered a men's sport, so it's really cool to see the women's team stepping up and winning some," said Paige Britton, 15.

This is the fourth World Cup the U.S. Women's team has won since 1991.
