MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The annual Pridefest in Marquette will have a new date and new location this year. The festival, which has been held at Tourist Park in September, will be at Lower Harbor Park this year and it will be held June 20.
The event is put on each year by U.P. Rainbow Pride, a non-profit LGBT advocacy group. The change in date and location was to make the festival more visible and to match up with June, which is National Pride Month.
"We put the word out, we wanted to hear people's feedback on do we keep it in September or do we move it to June, and there were a lot more people of course who wanted it in June," said Treasurer for U.P. Rainbow Pride, Michael Bradford. "We'll get more people and outside of the change of date, the change of location was equally as important just so we can get more and more people to Pridefest."
2020 will be the seventh year for Pridefest in Marquette. U.P. Rainbow Pride is currently fundraising with the goal of establishing a brick and mortar LGBT resource center.
