Marquette Founders Landing pier project gets final green light
The City of Marquette agreed Monday night to move forward with the $5.6 million plan to restore and reuse the Founders Landing piers. During the City Commission's regular meeting, the board unanimously voted to approve a change order to include final design and construction oversight.
The engineering work is being done by GEI Consultants and the actual construction work will be done by Kokosing industrial and Durocher Marine Division. This is a final administrative step and the final design work is not to exceed $200,000.
"This phase was something we've been planning on doing, it's just the administrative time to do it," said Marquette City Manager, Mike Angeli. "What they're going to do is ask GEI to do the final design and move us forward to complete the project."
If the rest of the permitting process goes smoothly, Angeli says he's hopeful work will begin in September.
