MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is offering free parking in downtown on Friday, February 14.
To better accommodate an influx of visitors in town this weekend, all metered spots and pay lots will be free.
Time limits for lots and spots will also be lifted.
No parking areas and private lots will still be enforced, and the lot on Lakeshore Boulevard by the ore dock will be closed.
The DDA says many hotels in the area are at capacity for the UP200, bringing a boom to downtown businesses.
"A lot of businesses around the route are offering warm up parties, so it gives people the opportunity to watch the races, run inside, warm up, check out the different offerings that the different businesses will have," says Tara Laase-McKinney, promotion and events coordinator for the DDA.
The DDA also recommends carpooling or taking a taxi downtown this weekend, as parking will likely be sparse.
