K.I. SAWYER, Mich. (WLUC) - Marquette County might be exploring other options for private aviation out at Sawyer International Airport. Wednesday night the County Board discussed the issue.

The board granted an extension into august for Boreal Aviation. Boreal has been providing a number of aviation services, including fuel, for nearly 20 years. The board has expressed an interest in accepting applications from other companies to see if another business can provide increased economic benefit. Boreal management say they want to continue a legacy at Sawyer.

"What I want to see is that they would be able to give long-term job security to the employees of Boreal Aviation, said Michael McNeil, Director of Operations for Boreal Aviation. "Boreal has been serving Sawyer for over 20 years, we were the very first employer at Sawyer, it was founded by seven members of the United States Military that retired and we want to see their dream continue."

County staff also said they wanted to take their time to make sure the request for other businesses is thorough, transparent and fair.
