NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette County Health Department (MCHD) Wednesday night hosted a special training session. It was called Crisis Support 101.
The presenter was from Dial Help, a non-profit crisis line and outreach center that serves the entire Upper Peninsula. The training was aimed at providing people with skills to help recognize and assist with friends, family or co-workers who are going through a mental health crisis.
"If and when someone does need to reach out for help, or even if they're not ready to reach out yet, it kind of arms us with the skills to maybe even reach out to them, and help them have that conversation, it helps empower them," said Crisis Support Specialist, Mary Gaddis.
The MCHD is also hosting the fourth annual U.P. Suicide Prevention Conference later this month on September 20.
