MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)- There are new “No Parking At Any Time” signs at Presque Isle Park in Marquette. The signs are posted on Peter White Drive around the island, between the Blackrocks parking lot and Sunset Point.
Police want to reduce traffic congestion on the road and make it easier for emergency response vehicles to access the park. Parking violations on the isle can lead to civil citations, civil infractions and even having your vehicle towed.
Marquette police say public response has been mostly positive.
“That road is a one way road and it's pretty narrow as it is,” said Captain Mike Laurila of the Marquette Police Department. “Parking on the road makes it extremely difficult for other motorists to pass through there. It makes it even more difficult for ambulances to get through there in the event of an emergency.”
Police say right now, educating the public about the restrictions is their primary goal.
