MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Commission has taken another step toward building a park at the Marquette city lighthouse property.
The commission unanimously passed a motion Monday evening that will allow the city to start the bidding process for contractors.
The Marquette Planning Commission previously rejected the proposal during a meeting earlier this month, on February 5th.
Residents with homes in the area voiced their opinions during Monday’s meeting.
Some citizens have previously said the lighthouse park plans adversely impact their properties and the flow of traffic.
Plans for the lighthouse park include reconstructing the multi-use path which runs along the shoreline. The plans would also provide an access road and parking lot.
Construction on the park could start this spring.
