MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Monday night the Marquette City Commission approved an increase to its garbage and recycling rates. The higher city fees are about $3 higher for green bag and cart users.
This will offset the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority's tipping fee increase, which was done to pay for new equipment.
"The Solid Waste Management Authority raised the tipping fee by $6 per ton, which is part of their effort to improve on recycling, we are just agreeing to pass on that cost to our consumers here in Marquette, it makes sense, it's fair," said Marquette City Manager, Mike Angeli.
The Commission also sold parcel 13 of the Neartwood property to the Noquemanon Trail Network for $96,000 80 percent of the appraised value.
