MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette City Commission appointed its newest member Monday night.
The commission selected Paul Schloegel for the seat left vacant after the death of Mayor Tom Baldini in December.
Schloegel, the general manager for Northern Energy Solutions, is an NMU graduate. He has been a member of the City Planning Commission for almost five years and a representative to the Board of Zoning Appeals for three years. Schloegel plans to use this experience to serve the people of Marquette.
“My main goal really is to try to fill the shoes of a great commissioner that we lost so tragically, Tom Baldini,” said Schloegel. “It's really a daunting task. I look forward to just working with other commissioners for the citizens of Marquette and doing everything I can to move us forward.”
Schloegel will serve through Nov. 2020, when Baldini's term ends.
There were seven applications for the open seat. Each applicant was given an opportunity to speak before the commission voted.
