Marquette City Band holds first summer concert on Thursday evening

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)- The Marquette City Band holding their first summer concert of the 2019 season on Thursday evening in Presque Isle.

This free concert is the first of six concerts happening throughout the summer.

Each concert has a theme and tonight's theme was from ‘From Faraway Lands.’

They played a variety of international songs from Scotland, Germany, Brazil and several other countries.

The Marquette City Band has been in existence for 133 years and have played at the Presque Isle Band Shell for many years as well.

Stephen Grugin, Director of the Marquette City Band and the conductor, says all of the musicians enjoy getting the chance to play outside in such a beautiful setting.

"It's just when we see all the people that come out for a really nice night like tonight, it's a little cool but we're going to warm them up with our music we hope,” said Grugin. “The band, I could tell when they were setting up tonight they were all smiling and really looking forward to it, hopefully we will have a nice crowd and everybody will have a great time here at Presque Isle.”

All the concerts are on Thursdays this summer starting at 7:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. You can find the full list of concert dates on their website.
