MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette Alternative High School (MAHS) kicked off their 7th Annual Rock the Socks Campaign on Monday.
The "Rock the Socks" collection box inside of Wattsson and Wattsson Jewelers.
Students spent Monday morning dropping off collection boxes and flyers to businesses all across town.
The purpose of the campaign is to collect socks and give them to people around Marquette County who need them the most, especially during the cold winters. According to MAHS English Teacher, Cynthia DePetro, socks are the most needed, but least donated, clothing item for people in need.
"It is sad to imagine that in our cold winters that we have a homeless population, which we do. They're entitled to be able to be warm. It's the least that we can do to help them out,” DePetro said.
Wattsson and Wattsson Jewelers will also be matching up to 200 pairs of socks on December 3 as part of the campaign.
The campaign runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 13.
