UPDATE: Mackinac Bridge OPEN to passenger vehicles Sunday morning

ST. IGNACE, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE 11:50 a.m. Feb. 25, 2018

As of 11:48 a.m. Sunday, Mackinac County 911 and Emergency Management says the Mackinac Bridge is reopened to passenger vehicles, but remains closed to high profile vehicles due to high winds.

The bridge closed to all traffic around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning due to falling ice, but has now reopened to some vehicles.

As of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the Mackinac Bridge is closed to all traffic due to falling ice from the cables and towers on the bridge.

Drivers are advised to reduce their speed to 20 miles per hour as they approach the bridge and be prepared to stop. Bridge personnel are stationed at both ends of the structure to provide instructions.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring the conditions at various points along the structure. When conditions improve, the bridge will be reopened to traffic. If you are planning to travel to the Straits area, please tune to AM 530 or 1610.

Monitoring of weather conditions will be ongoing.
