MTU Hockey fans unhappy over limited tickets for WCHA tournament

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - Michigan Tech’s campus stands almost empty during spring break. Many MTU Hockey fans rushed to Northern Michigan University’s campus today. Hundreds stood in line for tickets to the upcoming MTU vs NMU WCHA tournament Championship Game.

Following WCHA guidelines, a block of 150 tickets have been set aside for MTU fans. A waiting list for those tickets is already building at the MTU ticket office. NMU is also providing tickets for the pep band and families of athletes. Some students and fans made the long drive today only to come back empty handed.

"I mean, it is part of the job. You can really expect a lot of that from Northern, knowing it is a rivalry game and everything like that. The pep band is the only section of Michigan Tech students that have tickets to the game. They know we have a stronger fan base than they do, that is for sure, so, we will be loud," said Zach Papciak, travel coordinator for Mitch’s Misfits, MTU’s hockey fan club.

Michigan Tech is working to organize a watch party for fans. They hope to stream the game live on the video board at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. We will have more details on that later this week.
