MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Northern Michigan University kicked off Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations with their annual Equity March through campus on Monday afternoon.
NMU students and staff, along with community members, walked through campus carrying signs advocating for equality and inclusivity.
After the march, participants enjoyed presentations and “Poetry Without Borders,” all focusing on unity and equality.
"It's really, really important to show our unity and to show how much we need to still do to make sure everyone is included. We're just working to help do that, to carry King's message forward,” said NMU Multicultural Education and Resource Center Associate Director, Shirley Brozzo.
After the presentations, participants then went out to complete various community service projects.
