An event that took place in Escanaba on Saturday is raised money for heating assistance in the community.

The Menominee Delta Schoolcraft Community Action Agency held their annual “Walk for Warmth” event. The walk started at the Elks Lodge, and went down Ludington Street.

The heating assistance program helps low income families and individuals pay their heating bills. Participants donated money and took pledges from family and friends. The event raised an estimated $40,000.

“Our community is very supportive, they are supportive of lots of groups including ours for Walk for Warmth, people recognize that we have neighbors who struggle with their heating bills in the winter and they just need a little bit of help to get through the winter,” said Julie Moberg, Executive Director of the MDSCAA.

Each year, the organization serves more than 200 people in Menominee, Delta and Schoolcraft counties.
