On August 29, 2016 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office responded to Co Rd 643 for a logging truck on fire.

The truck was parked on the North side of the Paint River Bridge. The driver had parked the fully loaded truck about an hour and half earlier after experiencing mechanical problems and left to retrieve some tools. When he returned the truck was fully engulfed in flames. A passerby had called 911 just prior to his arrival.

The truck was extinguished by the Hemitite Township Fire Department. No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Aspirus EMS, Hemitite Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Iron County Central Dispatch.
