A local radio station has started a petition to get a famous rock and roll musician to the Upper Peninsula.

The petition was announced during the “Mornings in Marquette” program with The Fat Man, declaring Kid Rock should come and play in the U.P.

One of Kid Rock’s mega hits it “Born Free.” It was shot at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising. Even with hits like that, and “All Summer Long” about summer memories in Michigan, he has yet to play a concert in the U.P.

Hopes are to collect somewhere between 12,000 and 15,000 signatures to bring him here.

“He comes up here. You know, he shot the video out at Pictured Rocks, and he comes up to Granot Loma. He's been up here,” said The Fat Man, with 100.3 The Point. “He goes over to Mackinaw Island, but he's never played a concert here. And this is like his signature song. I mean this is a huge record, biggest selling record of 2008, but yet he never plays up here.”

Signatures are being collected at The Point’s station on Washington Street in Marquette. Plans are being made to add more locations to collect signatures at their other station in Escanaba, and to go out to live sporting events.
