MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) Marquette’s Lakeview Arena is getting ready for the NHL preseason game it’s hosting on October 4th between the Buffalo Sabres and the Carolina Hurricanes.
In April, the city of Marquette earned the honor to host the game when it won a competition to be named “Kraft Hockeyville USA 2016”. Volunteers have been working all week, mostly focusing on clean-up and painting around the arena.
Marquette’s Park & Recreations Department, who owns the arena, is working with both Kraft and the NHL to make sure the arena is ready for the big game.
"There's just a lot of work that's going into this, it's all very exciting,” Marquette’s Parks & Recreations Coordinator, Andrew MacIver, said. “But at the same time… there's a lot of pressure because we've got to make this place look nice for national television."
They’re still looking for volunteers to help out, even if just for an hour or two. If you’d like to volunteer, simply show up at Lakeview Arena any weekday in the next week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
