Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice is looking for volunteers

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Friday is the last day to sign up for Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice's free volunteer training.

This training will take place from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. on Thursday, October 17 at Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice’s office.

Officials are asking anyone who is interested in lending a helping hand to attend this training.

The training will include a variety of lessons, but Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, Susie Duquette, says the most important one is emphasizing the relationship volunteers will build with patients.

"There's a need in the community for hospice helpers and workers,” she explained. “Volunteers are sometimes the only ones that can make that connection."

"I know it sounds weird, but you make friends with these people in a very short period of time, you walk away the winner for it. It makes more for you as the volunteer I think than you ever would've imagined,” said Dan Mazzuchi, long-time volunteer.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older and have reliable transportation to participate.

To sign up, call Susie Duquette at 906-225-7760 or email her at
