L'ANSE, Mich. (WLUC) - L’Anse Area Schools recently received a large donation from an alumnus to wipe out all student lunch debt.
The school district recently implemented free lunches to its students, however some students still had previous debts from before the change. Students also have to option to pay for add-ons to their lunches, which can create more lunch debt.
The school district was happy to see its alumni giving back to the community.
"It's pretty heartwarming to see an alumni step up and do that. It's also just a nice lesson for our students to learn about, that there are people out there contributing back to their communities in a charitable way," said Susan Tollefson, Superintendent of L’anse Area Schools.
The school also stated that parents of students have been happy with the change to free student lunches.
