GLADSTONE, Mich. (WLUC) - A couple’s wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives.

However, for newlyweds Brittany and Alex Barnett of Kingsford, who got married last Saturday at the Terrace Bay Hotel between Escanaba and Gladstone, their wedding day holds some sadness as they had hundreds of dollars in gift money stolen from them on their big day.
“My aunt’s card that she had mentioned had $100 in it, had nothing. So we thought maybe it was a fluke, contacted her, and she said ‘no I definitely put it in there, I’m missing it!’ So then that’s when we kind of started to dive deeper into more that might have been missing,” said Brittany Barnett.
All gift cards were left behind, as were personal checks made out to the couple.
“Checks and gift cards can be tracked, so that’s why the person who did it was calculated, unfortunately. And smart, I give them props, but yeah they definitely knew, they knew it was planned,” Barnett added.
The cash was stolen from the gift table inside of the Terrace Bay Hotel’s ballroom. Unfortunately, there are no cameras near where the table was set up.
Terrace Bay Hotel Owner, Jarred Drown, said he is working with his staff and police to help find the thief.
“They’re [the staff] really keyed in to the clients and customers when they’re here, so we’ve asked them to try and remember anything they possibly can from that night and they’ve been trying to help us with tips or ideas,” Drown said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the couple recover their losses, but the Barnetts say all they are after, is justice.
“Our main goal here is just to hopefully give the person a chance to come out. We will forgive you. We want to know why, and who you are, and be able to lift that weight off of our hearts because we’re carrying kind of a burden with that,” the couple said.
The Barnetts thank the community for the support they have received so far.
