Man charged for breaking and entering at Kingsford High/Middle School

UPDATE: 12/27 - James Richard Stafford, 22, is charged with breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property $1,000 but less than $20,000, larceny in a building, and disorderly person-drunk.

He was arraigned in district court December 26 and is released from jail.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for January 14.


On Sunday, December 23 at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers from the Kingsford Public Safety Department responded to a possible breaking and entering at the Kingsford High School and Middle School.

Officers were advised an employee of the school had found a subject inside the building that had broken in.

According to the Kingsford Public Safety Department, officers chased the subject on foot before arresting the subject on several charges related to the incident. The subject was lodged at the Dickinson County Correctional Center.

No further information is available, as the incident is still under investigation.

Officers were assisted on scene by the Dickinson County Sheriffs’ Department, Iron Mountain Police Department, and the Michigan State Police.
