Copper Country residents have a chance to contribute their stories to a record of local history.

The Keweenaw Time Traveler held its first scan-a-thon today at the Calumet Visitor's Center.

The map-based online history database launched June 15th

Michigan Tech students helped community members scan their photos and documents into the program.

"What the Keweenaw Time Traveler allows us all to do is to share our memories and stories about locations around the Copper Country. So it's not just really important events but even information about where you used to live, maybe a memory of something that used to happen in a local park," says geography and GIS professor Don Lafreniere.

This is the first of three scan-a-thons planned for this summer.

Two more will be held at the Visitor's Center August 9th and 23rd.

Residents can also add their documents and stories to the database from home.
