HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - The Keweenaw Family Resource Center in Houghton is gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year Saturday. It's their annual Ring in the New Year event.

The fun filled day starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning and runs until 1:30 p.m. at the Nara Nature Park Chalet. There will be snowshoeing and hiking, along with chili, hot cocoa, and coffee for the adults.

Thanks to event sponsors, the event is free of charge. Around 100 people are expected to attend.

“It came home to me what the event means to the public when a mother shared with me a story about her and her daughter coming out to try the snowshoes,” said Iola Brubaker, Executive Director of the Keweenaw Family Resource Center. “The smiles on the kids’ faces as they're trying new things and experiencing new events and enjoying the Copper Country and the beauty we have here in winter.”
