CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) - A coffee shop in Calumet celebrated Small Business Saturday with a unique event today.

Keweenaw Coffee Works held its first ever “Chocolate Fest.” The event included a wide variety of coffee and chocolate pairings, including a chocolate fountain and pies from Peace Pie Company of Marquette.

They featured women-led small batch chocolate makers as part of the event, since Keweenaw Coffee Works is itself led by women. The event brought together two different products that share many of the same characteristics.

“We thought it would be fun to bring in the chocolate because actually chocolate and coffee are very similar in terms of how they’re produced, and of course, celebrating small business and shopping local is really important to us. So we wanted to have something really fun for the community to come out and participate in,” said Valerie Baciak, Co-Owner of Keweenaw Coffee Works.

Keweenaw Coffee Works also held a special chocolate tasting as part of the event that required a pre-purchased ticket.
