ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - The city of Ishpeming is inviting one of its candidates for City Manager for an in-person visit. Wednesday night the council voted 4-1 in favor of inviting Fred Ventresco to come to Ishpeming for a further interview.
This was during the council's regular meeting. Ventresco was interviewed earlier this month via video conference for the city manager position. He was one of five candidates. Ventresco has more than a dozen years in leadership roles in a number of municipalities in the New England area.
"He seemed like a very solid candidate, he checked all the boxes, had all the experience, a good education, so we're excited to have him come in," said Ishpeming Mayor, Karl Lehmann. "Now we'll get a chance to get to know him find out a little bit more about his experience and so on, but this is not a final decision, it's a second interview."
The details of the second interview have yet to be worked out. The council has been searching for a new City Manager since Mark Slown announced his retirement in late March. In June the council selected Jim Lampman for the interim position. Lampman is also the city's Finance Director.
