IRON RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) - Cowboys and cowgirls gathered at the Iron County Fairgrounds to kick off the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo.
Doors opened at noon and performances started at 2, giving spectators plenty of time to stop at various food and clothing vendors.
This year's specialty act was Dalton Morris.
Fans got to see all of the classic events like roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing.
Organizers say this event is unique not only to the U.P., but the state of Michigan, and it helps to put iron river on the map.
"It sets us apart. We are the only PRCA Rodeo in the state of Michigan, so to have it here in this community, it really pulls everybody together. It really makes this town boom," said Rodeo Board Vice President Sari Jacobson.
