IRON RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) - Iron River Country Club hosted a two-person golf scramble Tuesday. It was an all-women event that benefited the Northwoods Animal Shelter in Iron River.

Lunch, a raffle and silent auction took place at the course. Participants were able to catch up with each other and donate to a good cause.

25 different people and businesses sponsored the 18 holes, and all of the raffle baskets were donated from members of the community.

"It is overwhelming. It’s heartwarming. The community really rallies around our shelter and it is humbling, the amount of support we get and we are just so thankful to the country club,” said Northwoods Animal Shelter Manager, Sarah Erickson.

The proceeds will go toward medical expenses for animals in the shelter, as well as a new cat enclosure.
