Iron Mountain man facing felony assault charge

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - An Iron Mountain man is facing a felony assault charge after an incident in the city of Iron Mountain Tuesday night.

The Iron Mountain Police Department was dispatched to the Dickinson County Healthcare System emergency department at 7:20 p.m. June 11. A 27-year-old woman was there for treatment of significant injuries that required emergency surgery.

After an initial investigation, IMPD officers, along with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s office, executed a search warrant at a home on the north side of Iron Mountain at 9:40 p.m. to investigate more and find evidence of an assault.

Police say they were able to locate evidence and the suspect in the assault.

35-year-old Bobby Lee Winebarger, Jr., of Iron Mountain, was arrested and lodged at the Dickinson County Correctional Center on a felony charge of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or $5,000.

Winebarger has been arraigned in 96-B District Court and is currently being held at the Dickinson County Correctional Center.
