Icy roads, driving too fast leads to sideswipe collision

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle minor injury crash at US-41 and Industrial Park Drive in Negaunee Township just before noon on Friday, Dec. 29.

A 2004 GMC SUV driven by 27-year-old Jesse Dupont of Ishpeming, was heading east, just west of the railroad overpass. A 2014 Dodge pick-up truck, driven by 39-year-old Thomas Snow, of Marquette, was traveling east on the inside lane.

The Dupont vehicle then started to pass the Thomas vehicle in the outside lane, but lost control of his vehicle on the icy roads. The Dupont vehicle sideswiped the Thomas vehicle, causing both vehicles to lose control. The Dupont vehicle hit the impact guard rail for the overpass and then came to a stop in the median on the east side of the overpass.

The Thomas vehicle slid across the westbound lanes and hit the north face of the westbound guard rail.

A 6 year old in the Thomas vehicle complained of a sore back, but no other injuries were reported.

Dupont was listed at-fault for the crash, and was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Area police reported roads were very slippery on Friday morning, resulting in several motorists no judging those conditions well, leading to crashes or ending up in the ditch.
