IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - Psychology today defines hypnotherapy as a trance like state of concentration. In this state a patient can turn their focus inward to make changes or regain control of their life.
"We operate under the assumption that we are making our choices from our conscious mind, which is about 12% of our mind,” Hypnotherapist Nathan Zemar explained. “In reality, there is an entire subconscious or unconscious that is really driving the boat. In order to really generate self-change, we have to be able to communicate with that unconscious mind."
Nathan Zemar has been studying helping people through hypnotherapy for four years. He uses his profession to help patients overcome a number of different challenges.
"We work with smoking sensations, weight release therapy, we have seen a lot of individuals with anxiety and depression, post-traumatic stress, trauma recovery,” he said. “Just about anything you can think of with the mind can be worked with with hypnosis."
"I was just as skeptical as anybody,” a previous patient, David Vivio said of his session. “I didn't know enough about this. I still don't know a lot about this, but I know that it worked for me."
